Grand Rapids Chorus has a New Director!
On Monday November 14, 2011 the Grand Rapids Chorus voted for a new Chorus Director. On behalf of the chorus, I am very pleased to share that beginning January 1, 2012, our new chorus director will be Denise VanDyken!!!. Denise has been a Sweet Adeline for over 30 years. Many of you also know her as a former director of the Mid-Lakes Chorus. She has also been an Associate Director for the Grand Rapids Chorus for a number of years. We are spending the rest of 2011 celebrating the 28 years the chorus has had with Master Director Ann Jarchow, and we are also preparing to celebrate and embrace the future. We hope all of you will celebrate with us, and with each other, as we move forward in the spirit of positive change.
Meet West Shore's
New Director!
Annette Jurcevic
Annette Jurcevic’s breadth of education and experience affords her unique strengths as our new director. While pursuing graduate studies at Indiana University, she turned her focus to vocal music, completing a cognate in choral conducting as part of her master’s degree (1997). At The University of Texas at Austin she directed the UT Women’s Chorus while earning a master’s degree in choral conducting (2003). Also while living in Austin, Texas, she conducted the Austin Sängerrunde Damenchor – a German women’s chorus – from 2002 to 2010. She also plays many instruments including the piano, flute and trombone, and has a rich orchestral background. Annette most recently was involved as a quartet and chorus coach for the Austin, Texas Men's barbershop chapter and is a graduate of the Barbershop Harmony Society's Harmony University College. Along with directing West Shore she is also the new director for the Muskegon Shoreline Men's Barbershop Chorus. She hails from Ludington where she has been involved in community choruses, orchestras, as well as community theater. At her interview she confessed that her two loves are Classical Music and Barbershop! Annette will begin her tenure with West Shore on January 3, 2012. |
Choral-Aires Quartet Workshop
Choral-Aires Chorus once again invites its regional friends to attend a Quartet Workshop. Spread the news and forward this email to your quarteting
friends.
Are you singing in an established quartet or ensemble for fun? Serious to
improve quartet skills? Plan to be competing soon? Then this is the
workshop for you! ! This workshop focuses on music selection, help to
un-encrypt your music category judging sheets, and a session to cover best
practices to get the most from your quartet rehearsal time. This is a
packed workshop.
There are three special opportunities at this workshop:
1) Lynda Keever, music judge, is our featured educator this night and
will offer instant feedback on the current music your quartet is singing or
wants to sing. Registered attendees will email back to me copies of their
scanned music (which we promise to destroy after use) and Lynda will review
them before the workshop. Wow, where else can you get this kind of
attention?
2) Quartets may be interested to be the starring quartet for coaching at
this workshop. While all quartets will receive feedback, this volunteer
quartet will be coached during the sessions with all participants and
receive the most coaching time - FREE. Registered attendees may email me if
their quartet would like to be this starring quartet.
3) For 5 bucks ($5.00), an attendee may bring an item of clothing
(perhaps from one of their quartet outfits) and we will individually
embroider either your quartet name or your own name on it while at the
workshop. You will take it home again the same night.
Remember, attendance is limited to the first 8 of each part that registers.
Each workshop is limited to 32 participants so all participants may receive
specific coaching based on individual and quartet goals. Entire quartets or
ensembles should register for this workshop to receive the best benefit for
their time spent.
And it is FREE ! ! !
